Enterprise arcitecture to execute strategy

Last week (11 May 2010) Nick Malik posted the best summary of EA that I have ever seen. (http://is.gd/cgXXv)

He correctly identifies that all of the problems that EA attempt to address have a root in 'communication' with a particularly interesting comment about the risks of hierarchical business communications.

The article also uses the metaphor of a chain to describe the purpose of
enterprise architecture and its benefits.

In summary business planning without EA is like a chain with open links.

It can work and may even be lighter (re business process) but ultimatiely this chain between business strategy and strategy execution is weaker, harder to handle and less responsive that a chain with complete links.
